Wedding Dress Code From A Fashion Snob

While my quickly approaching wedding has been flawlessly styled as of six months ago… I must admit my fears still lie in the wardrobe choices of my guests. Fine… call me a fashion snob. But I just want everyone to look their absolute best… is that so wrong? If I had it my way I would have every female styled by Mr. Brad Goreski in Kate Spade’s Spring/Summer 2012 and Resort Wear collections. But since word on the street is you can’t have your cake and eat it too, I’ll settle with taking to the blogosphere and sending out fashionable energies in to the world with the hopes my female attendees will take this as a guide to dressing for my (and any other fashion conscious brides) wedding.

imagePick A Bold Color

I can’t freakin’ stand when everyone shows up to a festive occasion looking like they’re in mourning. Since when did black become the color of choice for a wedding? Que depressing. Try a bold pop of color with some simple accessories. This By Malene Birger jersey dress is flattering and flowy (for spinning around on the dance floor!) and right now it’s $82 from $235. That’s 65% OFF at The Outnet! Just remember to confirm you’re not in the same color as the bridesmaids… no matter what anyone tells you, no one likes the girl who shows up either in white or the wedding colors.

imageRock The Maxi

Someone better wear a maxi to my wedding. They’re elegant, sophisticated, and a very subtle touch of exotic. Perfect for MIA. Add a statement necklace or cuff for a look that is effortlessly chic. This is my pick for a maxi style – The Wrap Style Maxi Dress from eDressme! It’s only $100 and you can wrap it over 10 ways… which means you can get more than 10 wears!! Math Whizzes – that’s $10 a wear! The nude tone only makes the chances of wearing this dress over and over even more likely! Dress it up or dress it down. Rock it strapless, one shoulder, or haulter. I mean… needless to say, you can’t go wrong. Love this.

Pretty Polished in Printimage

I love a good floral print. But something that looks upscale and flattering is sometimes more of a project than finding a dress for a wedding where you’re really just there for the party needs to be. Try an subtle abstract print. This Sam&Lavi Libby Dress has beautiful soft tones, a flattering neckline, and it’s print is just the perfect amount of edgy for what should be a romantic evening. Hurry! It’s on sale for $90 from $138 at Revolve Clothing!

Thou Shalt Covet Thy Neighbor’s Blog

In comparison to international capitals of fashion, Miami’s Fashion Blogosphere is shall we say slim-pickins. But these are three of the Magic City’s coolest (and my favorite) bloggers and why you should covet them too!

imageAmanda Del Duca, Capture Fashion

This chic is seriously the cat’s meow. Like… the sh*t. Totally chill and always ready for a great time – evident by her posts that are fun, colorful, and always tell a story (her photographer is David Lundblad who may I add is equally as talented as Amanda). Having worked with her during her days as Fashionably Social and then watching her blog grow into Capture Fashion was so exciting! She’s constantly posting her personal style, editorials she has styled, and random photo diaries from her life in the industry. See Capture Fashion HERE!

imageAdrianna Traxler, Lovely Fringe

While me and Adrianna go way back, there is no bias here. She’s undoubtedly the most down to earth fashion-obsessed girl I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and spending lots of time with. Just an average jane with above average style and a keen eye for gathering the most beautiful images around. Check out Adrianna’s blog HERE!

imageMaria Tettamanti, The Wordy Girl

Wordy doesn’t even begin to cover it. Just a few blog posts in, you’ll be sure to know more about her life and fashion loves, you’ll feel like a brother-from-another-mother. She’s cool, quick-witted, and has impeccable taste. Most importantly, she puts a unique and personal twist on everything – hard to find in this hood. A personal role model, I want to be just like her when I grow up. Read The Wordy Girl HERE!

Chicken Things

imageI painstakingly admit I am a huge fan of With that said… we had a few friends over last week and I attempted this Chicken Penne with mushrooms & sundried tomatoes. For my own sanity I used wheat penne. It was a total hit! The recipe calls for enough to make two big dishes (one to eat that feeds 4 and another to freeze). These were my frozen leftovers that were equally as delicious as the first time. Get the recipe HERE! Thanks Mrs. Stewart!

SMW Miami Fashion Takeover

Me with The Fashion Poet's Annie Vasquez at Social Media Week Miami!

At 9:15 this morning the Adrienne Arscht Center flooded with flocks of Miami’s fashionably elite. The crowd was filled with a wide array of stylish bloggers, PR princesses, and all around fashion mavens patiently awaiting the panelists to give up the goods when it comes to curating a successful blog.

The panelists included Maria Arguello – Editor of Refinery29 Miami, Annie Vasquez – the blogger behind The Fashion Poet, Carmen from Viva Fashion, the lovely Erika Thomas – Blah Blah Blonde, and Lizmarys from Miss Mean Shoe.

The Goods:

Be yourself. Each of these bloggers were adamant that having a successful blog with devoted readership starts with a definitive voice that is all your own. If you truly have a passion for what you’re writing about, it all flows from there. Don’t try to mimic other bloggers.

Be proactive. No one can make your blog successful but you. Carmen from Viva Fashion even confessed her husband pitched potential brand partnerships for her under cover as her manager! Be creative and think outside of the box. Don’t let fear of failure (whatever that means in the blogosphere) come between you and amazing opportunities.

Have great photography. No really. This was the third. Maria Arguello summed this idea up by saying “A picture may be worth a thousand words… but it could also be worth 10,000 clicks.” Invest in good photography. Get a camera and take a free photography class at a local community college. You won’t be sorry.

DIY Chanel Silk Blouse

Having a chronic obsession with surfing Etsy has lead me to things that are outrageously rare, heart-stoppingly beautiful, and straight up fugly. But nothing else has tickled by fancy more than coming across a full set of (authentic) gold Chanel buttons. Naturally, I forwarded along the information to my fiance… who in turn would purchase them as a Valentine’s Day gift because frankly, I taught him well he loves me enough to get me something he knows I will love. Check out this DIY Chanel blouse tutorial & my final result!

imageSo this Forever21 silk blouse was $17.99. I wore it a TON before I decided to add these fab little buttons. They may or may not have this exact top… but it’s pretty standard. You could find a basic like this at TJMaxx or Marshalls for a great deal! Better yet, you might already have something in your wardrobe that needs a little sprucing up!

imageSAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIENDS. $115 on Etsy courtesy of my fiance. Buttons are great if your luxe obsessed, on a budget and diy savvy. If they’re a great label, they will last forever. Once you get sick of wearing whatever piece you’ve decided to attach them too… remove them and move on to something more updated! NBD!

imageVOILA! an Instagrammed (yes… that is a verb in the fashion blogger world) DIY Chanel Silk Blouse.
